Boo! Ghosty mixed media tag šŸ‘»

Hey there, so glad you stopped by! Today Iā€™m sharing an over-the-top spooky mixed media tag, jam-packed with Tim Holtz products and TONS of texture!
More details ahead! MWAH-HA-HA-HA šŸ˜ˆ

The Backgroundā€¦
Started with a few cuts of the Sizzix Tangled Twigs dies and glued down on a medium thickboard tag (After seeing how bomb it turned out, I wish I would have used the larger tag so it was more visible - you know itā€™s a good background when you reallllly donā€™t want to cover it up! šŸ¤¤)

Next, I coated with white gesso and added a few random splotches of Texture crackle paste (plus thicker around the tag hole to help cover)

Then coated with a blend of Distress paints ā€” Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters, and Black Soot

(Iā€™ve said it before, but worth mentioning againā€¦ Distress paint is thinner in consistency than most, but the coverage/color is so rich, Iā€™m obsessed with it! šŸ¤)

Went back over the top texture with black soot and peeled paint to add contrastā€¦ LOV-ING THIS šŸ™ŒšŸ»

The Frame + Ledgeā€¦
Used a frame from the baseboard frames pack and two scalloped trim thickboard pieces, painted with Black Soot, then used a palette knife to add a thick coat of crackle texture paste

Once dry, painted again with Black Soot, added hardware heads to corners

The photo of the girls is from one of the Halloween layers packs

Cut a little piece of clear acetate to go over the photo, added a few of my own cracks before gluing under the frame

Also used a few mounting dots to give my frame some elevation

The Ghosts + Lettersā€¦
Cut the ghosts from the Frightful Things Thinlits set, cut several sets of BOO! letters from the Bold Halloween Text dies and glued the layers together

Painted the pieces with Shabby Shutters, then added a thin coat of Rock Candy Clear crackle over the top

Once dry, painted a thin wash of Black Soot paint over the top to help highlight the crackle, then glued over the spider web (cut from clear acetate)

The Finishing Touchesā€¦
Time to add the bits to the ledge! Tried to capture most of my elements together before assembly:

For the little vial, I fill the inside with Peeled Paint embossing powder, painted the cork black, then added a skull remnant rub from the Halloween pack and painted on a thin layer of Rock Candy

Ok, there you have it, thanks so much for looking! Hope youā€™re enjoying the crisp chill of early fall, I know I am šŸ‚šŸ Happy crafting!
x Erin
